Pennsylvania's State Museum presents a comprehensive chronicle of the area's history, ranging from stunning Civil War exhibits to displays on the confluence of American industry. One of Pennsylvania's most visited museums, it also features an annual array of imaginative temporary exhibits on such topics as the formal wear of the state's First Ladies in politics, and an artist's photographic portrayal of the Steel industry. The museum resides near the downtown waterfront on the east side of the river, directly across from Independence Island.
